Quality specifications and sustainability targets met
High-tech and r-PET ensure sustainability
Orthomol, a provider of nutritional supplements, and packaging expert Greiner Packaging are working closely together to drive the reduction of the environmental footprint and lay the foundation for further progress in the circular economy.

Orthomol, based in Langenfeld, is a pioneer of orthomolecular nutritional medicine in Germany. The company has been developing and marketing balanced doses of micronutrient combinations for various areas of application for over 30 years. They are developed and manufactured in accordance with the international quality standard ISO 22,000. Greiner Packaging has been producing the characteristic brown drinking bottles for Orthomol's nutritional supplements since 2022. At the beginning of 2025, Greiner Packaging switched the production of the drinking bottles to recycled PET. The high-tech production facility developed especially for Orthomol sets new standards in terms of efficiency and sustainability. The commissioning significantly improved quality and increased production capacity. "With 18 cameras and an innovative laminar flow system, we ensure that every vial fulfils our strict quality specifications and thus meets Orthomol's high standards," explains Daniel Holspach, Key Account Manager at Greiner Packaging. The production facility is the only one of its kind in Europe. Equipped with a precise camera system, it checks each drinking bottle in real time for geometry, colour and possible inclusions. Thanks to the combination of state-of-the-art camera technology and the laminar flow system, which keeps out dust particles, the highest standards of hygiene are guaranteed. This investment in technology underlines Greiner Packaging's claim to offer its customers reliable and flawless production and exemplifies its innovative strength and ability to respond to individual customer needs.
Sustainability as a common goal
"Drinking bottles are one of our most popular dosage forms worldwide," says Dr Jörn Weißenfeld, who is responsible for production and sustainability on the Orthomol Management Board. "The fact that Greiner Packaging is investing with us in the sustainable further development of the vials is very valuable for Orthomol." Sustainability is a key aspect of the collaboration. Greiner Packaging has already taken a significant step towards more sustainable production by introducing recycled PET (r-PET) into the production of drinking bottles. This measure contributes to reducing the ecological footprint and represents an initial basis for further progress in the circular economy. In the long term, the bottle is to be made entirely from recycled PET in order to consistently advance the sustainability goals.

The collaboration between Orthomol and Greiner Packaging is based on targeted investment in the latest technology and practice-orientated solutions aimed at improving production quality and efficiency. Greiner Packaging is contributing its expertise in the field of recycled materials in order to develop solutions and sustainable packaging concepts that meet current and future requirements. "Sustainability is also a key concern for Orthomol and we look forward to working together on solutions that are both environmentally friendly and forward-looking for the industry," says Daniel Holspach. The partnership focuses on both innovation and responsible use of resources, providing an approach that meets the needs of the packaging industry. (hw)
